Jack is back in the Green

'The Last Green Man' is the first of the " Jack Green Books".

This fantasy adventure story is captivating and totally unique. It falls somewhere between science fantasy and science fiction, but is more accurately described by the author as 'Green-Fantasy'.

The story uses the mystifying pagan figure, known as The Man-of-the Woods, or Green Man, as its main character. This legendary figure continues to intrigue us. He appears in varying images such as carvings all over the World - from churches in the British Isles through to legends in the Middle East, India and the Far East. This story suggests a possible role for The Green Man and brings him to life as a rather bizarre hero, but one still capable of sending a shiver down the spine...

If alone in the woods most of us are all capable of feeling 'that something is around, still and watching' - is that not true?

Here in Britain 'The Man-of-the Woods' is still celebrated annually, usually around May Day, which traditionally marks the begining of spring. He is historically associated with the seasons as he often represents new birth or new growth but also death and the passing of the year as it falls into winter. The name of 'Green Man' is quite a recent one and the figure has many incarnations. He has also been known as Pan, Oberon, Al Khidr, the Green Knight, Puck, Robin-in-the-Hood, Herne, Faunus and Robin Goodfellow, to name but a few. Some believe he is a malevolent figure but most would say that, although mischievous, he is basically good.

In The Last Green Man story, the ancient and roguish 'Man-of-the-Woods' is named , not surprisingly, Jack Green. As you would expect from such a figure Jack's story contains real fun but also some powerful messages. It is thought provoking too. Jack and his helpers will certainly make you question the World in which we live now; such is their task.

The plot moves the reader smoothly from an 'Exmoor based normality' to a wonderfully strange and absorbing new world. You will meet the failing middle-aged businessman, Ian Ramsey who runs a small civil engineering firm from an old office based in Exmoor. One night whilst driving home he notices a green shooting star just ahead of him and, after a disturbing encounter with the contents of the shooting star, Ian becomes Jack Green, the Man-of-the-Woods.

As the story unfolds we see developments featuring his secretary, Winnie Besom, his long-term friend, an American-Scot called Jim Gordon and some other very bizarre and somewhat unexpected characters, they are all helping the Earth to do what it needs to do. The story takes us across Europe as it moves from Exmoor to Istanbul. To describe any more may ruin the story for you - so you may like to buy the book and find out for yourself what happens.

Latest comments (posted on the books tab of Amazon UK) :

1. This is a great little book. If you like a book with a message, this is for you. It's very imaginative and creative. I haven't read anything quite like this for a while. It lulls you into a false sense of security before the action really kicks off! The character of the Green man is quite powerful, along with the other characters. This is more than a fantasy or new age story, this is universal creation!! This is a 'must read' type of book.

2. Here is a story that challenges everything around you and reminds you that what you see before your eyes is not necessarily all it appears.
It demands notice as it takes ancient folklore and mixes it perfectly into a modern day tale of good versus evil.
I thoroughly enjoyed it,and found it was a book that was not only hard to put down, but one that revealed more on subsequent reads.
Give it a chance, the gentle start belies a roller coaster ride of revelations by the time you reach the end!!

3. Yes, I enjoyed this book too! Borrowed it from a friend. I like the Green man. Is he on match.com?

You can now listen to the 2 music tracks inspired by, and written specifically for, The Last Green Man.

The first track you can see moving across the screen (on the player above) is simply named 'Rhythm'. Its full title is 'The Rhythm of the Woods' and cunjures up the images created in Chapter 2 when Ian becomes Jack.

The second is seen as 'Gordon' on the player, but the full title is 'Gordon Goes East' from Chapter 6. This captures the esscence of Jim's arrival in Istanbul.

Click on either name to play that particular track. Best played quite loud!

Both will be also available to buy on-line soon, as a Jack Green CD. There will be bonus material at the end of the second tack on the CD - so turn up the volume as the music goes distincly more dance orientated !

The oaks will beat the rhythm out,
For they contain the gall,
The beech will sing, the willow dance,
As spiders come to call…
